Happy Thanksgiving!

by Jill Couch

November 09, 2007

The 3rd and 4th Grade annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Play was held on Friday night, November 2.  And once again it was a huge success.  There were about 120 students, parents, and grandparents in attendance.

Mrs. Couch and Mrs. Dodson began cooking 4 turkeys during their lunch hour, and by the time school was dismissed, everyone could smell the aroma throughout the school.

The parents of the students brought in mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, green beans, rolls, pies, and other necessities to make the meal complete.

After we ate, we moved into the gym where the students put on a play called Cock-A-Doodle Dudley.  This play was about a rooster named Dudley that all of the barnyard animals looked up to.  They thought he crowed the sun up each morning with his magical crowing.  Gunther, a bad tempered old Goose, was jealous of Dudley and tried everything to make him look bad and run him off.  But the barnyard animals still loved Dudley.

One morning the sun didn’t come up, and Dudley was nowhere to be found.  Hector the Horse went to the forest looking for him, found him, and brought him back.  Even though Dudley knew his crowing wouldn’t bring the sun up, he crowed loudly, and………..YES!!!  The sun DID come up!!  Everyone cheered for Dudley and Gunther was so embarrassed…..she ran away.

The kids did an EXCELLENT job on the play.  They memorized all of their lines, and acted it out perfectly.  Mrs. Couch and Mrs. Dodson were very proud of them all.

Thank you, parents, for taking the time to cook, help with costumes, and work with your child on the speaking parts.  We appreciated our help.

Take a look at the slide show.  Thanks!
