After School Students Visit Carver National Park

by Gina Dodson

April 14, 2008

On Saturday, April 12, Mrs. Forkner and Mrs. Dodson, along with several students and parents, ventured out in the cold weather and headed to Carver National Park in Diamond, Missouri.  We spent time shopping in the Gift Shop, touring the new Discovery Center, and taking a one hour tour along the Carver Trail.

Along the trail we made stops at the old cabin where George Washington Carver was born, the garden where George learned of his love of plants, the house that he grew up in, and the cemetery where the Carver family is buried.  It was a cold day but we sure had a good time.

After the tour we stopped at Burger King in Carthage and had lunch.  As we drove home we watched the snowflakes fall and couldn't believe it was April.
