7-12 Class Schedule for 2010-2011

Many hours were spent from several people in developing the class schedule for the upcoming school year. As everyone is aware there will be a learning curve for everyone this year as we are implementing an 8th period to our school day. This new schedule gives us flexibility in several ways:
It allows for Vo-Tech students to attend a first period class prior to leaving for Nevada.
It allows more flexibility for all students to schedule required classes without needing to attend summer school.
It allows more time for students to explore elective classes.
It allows for wider range of foreign language opportunities for Jr. High and High School by moving to the Powerspeak12 program. This is scheduled as 7/8 FLEX (Foreign Lang. Explore) where 7th and 8th graders will explore German, Chinese and Spanish over the course of one semester, and as Spanish I/II for the High School students.
It allows for additional Math courses to be explored. This is reflected in the schedule as 7/8 HOPS (Higher Order Problem Solving) where students will have an opportunity to develop the skills to solve real world math problems.
We all realize this is going to be a BIG change to our district, however we feel that this is what is best for our students to offer them the new opportunities and experiences. There are bound to be "hiccups" and "speed bumps" along the way that will need to be tweaked and ironed out to make this a smooth transition and we want to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
