Learning is FUN

The Bronaugh Afterschool program took advantage of the beautiful weather for their latest STEM lesson.  They learned about shadows.  Student traced each other and various objects then measured both.  They compared the length and size of the shadow to the actual person or item.  Some of their shadows made them "8 feet tall", they said they were "giants".  We also were able to observe how the sun moves, and the shadows change by tracing the basketball goal on the cement court.  While we were completing the other projects, the sun moved and it made an entirely different size shadow.  Students used skills such as prediction, cooperation, measurement, addition and subtraction and tracing. They all had fun and got some wonderful fresh air.

The next day, after homework was finished, we played a math game.  The game was "math tic tac toe".  We made a big tic tac toe grid on the floor and gave the students either a red of blue bean bag.  They took turns answering a math problem that was grade level appropriate.  If they got the question correct, they got to toss their bean bag and try to score tic tac toe.  All of the students had fun, and got to use those large muscle groups as we learned.
