New Location for the Learning of Math in High School 2010-11

June 17, 2010

Hi,

My name is Diane Blankenship sometimes known as "Ms. B" and I teach Mathematics here at BHS.  This will be my 12th year of teaching.  This is my 7th year in the district, but this year I will enjoy a new location!! My room is now at the other end of the hallway!! We will get to enjoy the more spacious room formally known as Mrs. Sikes' room.

The books for Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry have a companion website classzone.com  that has animated math activities, @hometutor, practice quizzes, and practice test!!!

Algebra I is the study of functions and relations. The students will spend time learning to graph and solve equations, both linear and other kinds of polynomials. We have to prepare for the End of course test for this course.

Algebra II will further expand on the abilities to solve equations and graphing those equations.

Geometry is the study of shapes, their properties, proof, and other spacial topics.

7th and 8th grade use Math Thematics books and study several topics including Pre-algebra for 7th and Algebra basics for the 8th grade. New this year there will be an additional semester math class focusing on problem solving.

The Math Thematics books have a website companion classzone.com, but it has less "stuff". Eworkbooks, Etutorials, and Monthly activities are the three items for the Thematics books.

College Algebra is available as dual credit through Wentworth Junior College. We will study topics such as conics, functions, logs, and generally solve many types of equations.

I look forward to seeing each of you!
