Michael Pruitt’s Biographical Sketch and Classes for 2009-2010
Mercy Hospital, Christmas Eve, 1943 was the place and time of my birth. Three days later my Dad left for WWII to serve in the Merchant Marines. He returned in 1945 at the end of the war. My formal education started at the age of 5. The schools I attended were:
Grades 1-4 Harmony School (a one room country school in the Mapleton, KS area)
Grades 5-8 Mapleton, KS
Grade 9 Blue Mound, KS H.S.
Grades 11-12 Fulton, KS H.S.
Associate Degree – Fort Scott Community College
Bachelor’s Degree - Industrial Arts Ed. – Pittsburg State University
Master’s Degree - Industrial Arts Ed. - Pittsburg State University
Several hours on Specialist Degree - Industrial Arts Ed. - Pittsburg State
University
Married in 1973 to Sharon Fulton. We have three offspring:

Five of the cutest and smartest grandchildren in Vernon County.
The school year is starting again to the 44th power. Wow! It doesn’t seem possible. A man once said, ”Do what you enjoy doing and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” I do enjoy teaching Industrial Arts.
My teaching career is as follows:
1 yr. - Stark, KS

13 yrs. – Bronaugh, MO

Below are descriptions of the classes I will be teaching this year including what the students will be learning.
7th Grade Drafting
Drafting is a nine-week course designed to acquaint the student with the language of industry. The student will develop an understanding of orthographic projection and dimensioning through hands on experience.
8th Grade Industrial Technology
This is a nine-week course where students will explore and demonstrate an understanding of four elements of construction: design, measurements, tools, and materials.
Woods I
Woods I provides students with an understanding of how the proper use of tools impacts their life. Students will explore and demonstrate an understanding of woodworking.
Wood Technology
Wood Technology is an introductory course to acquaint the student with the world of industry. Study will be in the areas of safety, design, and hand and machine woodworking tools. As the student studies these areas he or she may develop a hobby in life or possibly a life’s occupation. The student will develop safe working habits, design projects, and develop an ability to organize tasks in an orderly fashion.
