Mrs. Pruitt's Classes

Classes taught by Mrs. Sharon Pruitt
Dear Parents,
As many of you might remember, I began teaching at Bronaugh in the fall of 1973 and came in to the system with 7 years of experience at other schools. My husband and I chose to live and educate our children here because of the friendly community and the continuing reputation of our excellent educational system. We have been blessed.
After 30 years of teaching, I wasn’t ready to completely retire. Who wants to do that? I can still legally teach 3 classes per day. So beginning in 1998 here’s what I do each day in our Bronaugh R-7 School System.
7th and 8th Grade Reading
It is my privilege to start my day with your junior high age students for one quarter out of their school year. Since this class meets for only one quarter and we orally read a novel and work on increasing our vocabulary and comprehension skills, we have to “read like crazy”. Classes and novels are divided up as follows,
7th grade boys: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain
8th grade boys: Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes
7th grade girls: Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery
8th grade girls: Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes
Note: Johnny Tremain is an historical fictional novel about a teenage boy who grows up during the Revolutionary War. Since 8th graders study U.S. History, both boy’s and girl’s classes will read this novel to reinforce their knowledge of this time period.
To improve vocabulary and comprehension skills our classes will be using the SRA Reading Laboratory which is a multilevel systems approach to individualized reading instruction. Students will work on their own reading level and at their own pace. Each student will take responsibility for his or her own reading progress. This class gives us one last chance to have reading instruction in a supervised setting that ultimately contributes to a life long love of reading.
K-3 Elementary Vocal Music
The enjoyment of active music making is the best approach to developing a lifelong appreciation for music. We do just that in our music classes. We sing, move to music, listen to music, play rhythm instruments and look for creative ways to link music instruction to other curriculum areas. Our program utilizes Silver Burdett Making Music in grades K-8. This series has a sequential and varied approach to teaching elements and skills of music which are aligned to the National Standards for Music Education. This will provide students with an extensive collection of song literature. Other features include listening maps, instrumental arrangements, movement activities, and information on music makers and their backgrounds.
Throughout the year your children will have the opportunity to participate in various programs. Highlights from past years have been the Veteran’s Day program in November and the PTO Christmas Program in December. We anticipate these same offerings this year as well as others at individual grade levels. As always we anticipate these times and thank you in advance for your support of our educational music program.
Choir Accompanist
During my 3rd hour I will be joining Mr. Hendrix in accompanying the choir. We will have various opportunities to perform during the year. Again I want to thank you for your continued support of our educational and allowing me to be a part of them.
